Jalan-jalan ke Singapore with Jenius

2D1N Trip to Singapore

Hello friends, I want to share my travel experience to Singapore. This is my first time going abroad. Even though it was quite short, I was happy and didn’t expect that I could come to this country. What is the story about traveling in Singapore?

I’m on this trip to Singapore on August 24, 2019 together with my friends. We don’t go on open trips, we go around alone because one of my friends has been to Singapore. Even though we only spent 2 days, we were satisfied to walk around Singapore and take the MRT.

Who doesn’t want to visit Singapore? This well-known developed country is indeed very attractive to travelers. We arrived at Changi Friday night. Because it is already 11pm, the MRT is no longer operating and we take the busway. Taking the busway in Singapore is actually nice, but it turns out that the distance from the airport to our accommodation (around Chinatown) is too far and there are busway stops every few meters, so we can’t afford it so we get off the busway and continue taking Grab.

Day 1

Bangunan ini seperti namanya, dulunya adalah Police Station, sekarang digunakan sebagai kantor MICA (Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts).
Our first destination is the one closest to the inn, which is Old Hill Street Police Station which is opposite Clark Quay. This building has about 900 windows, with colorful frames that are very instagramable. This building, as the name suggests, was formerly the Police Station, now it is used as the MICA (Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts) office.

You can see for yourself, the Old Hill Street Police Station building is very unique and interesting. After that, we continue our journey around Clark Quay. When you come to Clark Quay in the morning, not all of the surrounding restaurants are open, only a few are open. We can also jog around or just enjoy the river view. If you come in the afternoon or evening, there will be lots of sparkling lights in Clark Quay.

After circling the Clark Quay area, we continue walking and take the MRT to the Haji Lane area. For the experience of riding the MRT in Singapore, woow … I ‘ve never been on the MRT before, only ever been on the Commuter Line, the station is really big, there are many lines that are connected between stations and it’s very busy. It seems that many people use this public transportation service, because it is cheap. The habits of the people here are also great, such as when they are on an escalator, if you want to stop you have to be on the left side, and if you want to walk, go to the right side, everyone reminds each other. Then, it is forbidden to eat or drink in the area within the station, there will be officers watching. Then, stand on the designated line for getting on / off the train. There are 2 types of MRT payments, cash or cashless. If it’s cash, it will be directed to the vending machine for ticket purchases. If cashless, you can use EZ-Link or STP (Singapore Tourist Pass), or you can also use a visa card. I myself use a Jenius visa card or a Jenius debit card, because a Jenius card can be used as a visa card. I was looking for information that Singapore accepts payment using a visa card, so I tried to use it. And you really can. Payment for Busway, MRT, shopping, all can use this Jenius card. At that time, I exchanged my Jenius m-card balance in the Jenius money exchange feature before going to Singapore just in case my cash ran out.

Haji Lane, Kampong Glam, Arab Street, Bugis Street and surrounding areas. There are many interesting things and spots here and it is also very busy here.

Banyak distro-distro menarik dan toko cinderamata disini. Nggak heran banyak wisatawan suka berjalan-jalan disini.
Many interesting distros and souvenir shops here. No wonder many tourists like to take a walk here.

We also have lunch here, the place is like a Padang rice stall (which is safe for us). And we also stop at the Sultan Mosque, but we pray Dhuhr not at the Sultan Mosque, I forgot the name of the mosque. The experience I got, if I fill drinking water (better bring our own drinking water bottle / tumbler to refill it, rather than buying water continuously) in the mosque area, the water is cold (like water from the refrigerator), really cool.

After walking around on Arab Street and others, we continued walking towards Mustafa Center to buy souvenirs. We decided to buy souvenirs on the first day, because tomorrow we focus on sightseeing and go straight to the airport to go home, and the souvenirs are neatly packed. Even when shopping at Mustafa Center, I pay using a Jenius debit card. At that time, the SGD (Singapore Dollar) on the Jenius card that I had previously exchanged ran out, the cashier told me that I had this remaining SDG balance, you can kept paying using a visa card but immediately deducted my IDR (Indonesian Rupiah) balance or paid using cash. It turns out, even though we don’t have SGD money at Jenius, payments can still be made using the IDR balance which will be automatically exchanged for the SGD exchange rate. Really genius huh.

After shopping for souvenirs at Mustafa Center, we return to the inn to put the items purchased and rest for a while, after that we continue our next destination, namely Merlion Park. At Merlion Park, it said, we hasn’t been to Singapore without taking a photo with the Singa Mancur statue. From the Merlion Park, we can see Marina Bay very clearly. When I went there, it was bright and really busy. Oh yeah, my favorite photo spot on the wall that had Bougenville flowers, so cute, don’t forget to take a photo there.

Setelah puas menikmati Merlion Park, kita mengejar waktu untuk menuju ke Gardens by the Bay. Kita kesana kejar light show Garden Rhapsody. Romantis deh pokoknya.
After enjoying the Merlion Park, we catch the time to head to Gardens by the Bay. This really feels like a trip there, but it really paid off. We go there and chase the Garden Rhapsody light show. When we got there, the sun was already setting, and the gardens were there, the lights were all on, really good. We walk under Marina Bay, see Marina Bay from below it feels … And we feel like entering the world of avatars, where all the trees are lit up with colors. When the music starts, everyone is sitting under the tree, some are sleeping too, capturing the moment. Music and light are appropriate. Anyway, romantic.

Disaat pertunjukan selesai, penonton semua bertepuk tangan. Memang bagus banget sih Garden Rhapsodynya. Setelah dari Gardens by the Bay ini, kita mampir sebentar ke Mall Marina Bay Sands, gak beli apapun sih, hehe. Kita juga lihat pertunjukkan light & water show di Marina Bay Sands, Spectra. Tempat pertunjukkannya di luar ruangan, di Event Plaza. Event Plaza ini jika dilihat-lihat, tempatnya diseberang Merlion Park.
When the show ended, the audience all applauded. The Garden Rhapsody is really good. After from Gardens by the Bay, we stopped briefly at Marina Bay Sands Mall, didn’t buy anything, hehe. We also saw the light & water show at Marina Bay Sands, Spectra. The venue is outdoor at the Event Plaza. This Event Plaza if you look around, the place is opposite the Merlion Park.

Day 2

This 2nd day, it’s time for us to go home. But there is still time to take a walk until the afternoon before we turn back at night. In the morning we checkout, but we can leave our luggage at the reception for us to pick up the afternoon before we go to the airport. The next destination is to one of the shooting locations for Crazy Rich Asians. The former school and Chijmes Church which now has become a Restaurant and Cafe.

Lanjut.. kita ke Universal Studios Singapore. Kita ke USS naik MRT dari Vivo City. Gak masuk ke dalem sih, cuma foto-foto diluar aja, hehe, soalnya waktunya nggak cukup.
Next .. we go to Universal Studios Singapore. We go to USS by taking the MRT from Vivo City. I don’t go into the palace, just taking pictures outside, hehe, because there’s not enough time.

I’ve finished my story for a short trip to Singapore this time. Short but addicted, want to go there again. Are there any recommendations for other interesting places? share with me …
